Kindness is POWER

A few years ago, one of my patients gave me a special gift. It was a small plaque that read

Kindness Is Power

To me, this message really says it all. Kindness really is a powerful way to help others and to help yourself.

Kindness is also very important when people are recovering from accidents and injuries. Chris Challenger, at Challenger Rehab on Wheels, said it best. He helps people return to driving after traumatic car accidents. Often people are so afraid that they stop driving. He tries to help them overcome their fears and start driving again. According to Chris, what works best is a gentle push.

A gentle push is a way to treat yourself with kindness, while still moving forward. It is a push, but a gentle one. Hard pushes tend to backfire, and hold you back, especially when you are in the early stages of recovery.

The Toronto Star recently devoted much of their Saturday newspaper to Kindness. There are many articles on how Kindness can help us all create a better place to live. Check it out.

Yours with care - Mike
